Wilbur-Ellis || Sulfur |
A
fundamental principle of the Wilbur-Ellis Company is the responsible use of agricultural
chemicals in our environment. As part of that commitment, Wilbur-Ellis has been both a
major supporter and supplier of agricultural sulfur for over 50 years. This naturally
occurring substance has been proven effective for several uses in agriculture. These
include the use of sulfur as a soil amendment, as a fungicide and as a miticide. The elemental sulfur originates from California crude oil. It is extracted during the distillation of crude oil from various oil refineries. The extracted molten sulfur, at 260 - 300 degrees, is trucked in tankers to Wilbur-Ellis where it is cured and converted to a useable particle size for agriculture. Our first mill was installed at Fresno, CA in 1946. This mill initially produced a dusting sulfur that was used as a fungicide on grapes, sugar beets, tomatoes, and other crops. In the early 1970's additional labels were registered, one for a 97% sprayable sulfur and one for a granular sulfur used as a soil amendment. These products were further complemented in the 1980's with the addition of Golden Dew®, a 92% wetable sulfur that is used as both a miticide and a fungicide. In the last decade Wilbur-Ellis purchased the labels and the process technology to add two additional sulfur products, Special Electric® a 98% sulfur dust and Signal Dusting Sulfur®. A second mill was added at our Earlimart, CA plant in 1997. With this increased capacity, the Western Business Unit of Wilbur-Ellis Co. provides sulfur for all Wilbur-Ellis business units across the U.S. and is a major supplier of private labeled sulfur in California. |
